International Calling to UK

International Calling to UK

Calling the United Kingdom from abroad is simple once you understand the correct dialling format. The UK country code is +44, and the leading “0” from local UK numbers must be removed when dialling internationally.

⚠️ Do not include the leading “0” of the UK area or mobile code when calling from outside the UK.

How to Dial a UK Number from Abroad

Follow this format:

International Access Code + 44 + Area Code (without 0) + Local Number

The international access code varies by country (e.g., 011 from the US & Canada, 00 from most European countries).

Example: Calling a London Landline

UK local number: 020 7946 1234

From abroad: +44 20 7946 1234

Notice that the leading 0 in 020 is removed.

Example: Calling a UK Mobile Number

UK mobile number: 07123 456789

From abroad: +44 7123 456789

Calling Freephone & Service Numbers

  • 0800 / 0808 numbers may not be free when dialled internationally.
  • 084, 087 and 09 numbers can be expensive from overseas.
  • Always check international tariffs with your provider.

Ways to Reduce International Call Costs

  • Use VoIP apps (e.g., internet calling services).
  • Check if your provider offers international call bundles.
  • Ask the recipient if they can call you back.
  • Consider messaging or video call alternatives.
🌍 Always save UK contacts in international format (+44…) so they work both inside and outside the United Kingdom.
